1. всем сердцем любить кого, верить, сочувствовать кому, чувствовать что и т.п. [adv (intensif)]

⇒ (to love, feel for s.o. etc) very deeply, (to trust s.o.) entirely, (to sense sth.) acutely:

- with all one's heart (soul);

- with (all one's) heart and soul;

- [in limited contexts] heart and soul;

- wholeheartedly;

- with one's entire being;

- with everything (all) one has;

- with everything that is in one.

     ♦ Большие добрые и умные глаза Тушина с сочувствием и состраданием устремлялись на него [Ростова]. Он видел, что Тушин всею душой хотел и ничем не мог помочь ему (Толстой 4). liishin's large, kind, intelligent eyes were fixed on him [Rostov] with compassion and concern. Rostov saw that he wanted with all his heart to help him but could do nothing (4a).

     ♦ "Он, может быть, жаждал увидеть отца после долголетней разлуки... и всею душой жаждал оправдать и обнять отца своего!" (Достоевский 2). "Perhaps he longed to see his father after so many years of separation...and longed with all his soul to vindicate his father and embrace him!" (2a).

     ♦ ...Он всей душой ощущал, что ничего так не согревает человека во вселенском холоде, как добрый костер человеческой дружбы (Искандер 5). ...He sensed with heart and soul that nothing so warms a man in the universal cold as the kind campfire of human friendship (5a).

     ♦ Он хотя и знал, но не верил всею душою до последней минуты в оставление Москвы... (Толстой 6). Though he knew it was coming, he did not till the last moment wholeheartedly believe that Moscow would be abandoned . (6b)

2. к кому всем сердцем [predic with subj: human; used in pres or, less often, past contexts]

⇒ one relates to s.o. in a sincere manner. X к Y-y всем сердцем ≈ X comes to Y with an open heart; X comes to Y in (all) good faith.

     ♦ [Мечеткин:] Значит, вы меня разыграли? Я к вам всей душой, а вы ко мне?.. (Вампилов 2). [М.:] So you were just making fun of me. I came to you with an open heart, and you?... (2a).

     ♦ "...Мы к нему [князю] всей душой, а он послал нас искать князя глупого!" (Салтыков-Щедрин 1). "We went to him [the prince] in all good faith, and he sent us to seek a foolish prince!" (1a).
